MLK Breakfast Keynote Speaker

Rev. Tami Forte Logan, M.Div.

Rev. Tami Forte Logan, the daughter of Paul and Thelma Hudson Forte, was born in Sembach, Germany, and raised in Newport News, Virginia. Shortly after moving to Brevard in June 1987, Tami yielded to God's call to salvation and answered the call to preach on Easter Sunday, 2000. Tami was the first Program Director of Rise & Shine Freedom School of Neighbors in Ministry, a role that set the stage for her later achievements as their Executive Director and the Center for Participatory Change's Racial Equity Coordinator across W.N.C.

Currently residing in Spartanburg, S.C., Tami is an ordained clergy in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion (A.M.E.Z.) Church. She has pastored Pharr Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Old Fort, N.C., and Union Hill A.M.E.Z Church, Union Mills, N.C. Her leadership roles in the A.M.E.Z Hendersonville District and various boards throughout the state, including the Racial Justice Coalition of Asheville and the N.C. Justice Center, have further solidified her as a leader deeply rooted in her faith and an agent of truth, justice, and reconciliation.

Tami is also the Equity Missioner of Faith 4 Justice Asheville, a role that reflects her deep commitment to social justice. In this capacity, she works with an ecumenical and interfaith group of faith leaders to confront and interrupt systems of oppression in surrounding institutions. This work is not only external but also internal, as they repent and heal from the idolatry of white supremacy historically and contemporarily practiced by the church.

Tami's academic journey includes a Certificate of Nonprofit Management from Duke University, graduating magna cum laude from Ashford University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Public Policy, and summa cum laude from Hood Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at Emory University's Candler School of Theology, a testament to her commitment to continuous learning and growth. Her academic achievements are not just a reflection of her intellect, but also her passion for God’s work. Currently, Tami is providing pastoral care and assisting with rent support for survivors of Hurricane Helene at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church, Asheville, N.C.
